CHURCH AT PERGAMOS: In the city of Pergamos, is where Satan had his throne at the time of this writing. The Lord commends the church, for holding fast to his name, and for not denying their faith. Even in a time that a great persucution of the church is going on. The governor of Pergamos had taken Antipas, the bishop of the church which is at Pergamos. And to please the Greeks, he was thrown into one of the fiery altars of Cesar and roasted alive. All the time glorifying God and thanking him for being considered worthy to suffer for his name. But warns them that they need to correct a few things. That they have them which hold the doctrine of Balaam. Which is to say that some were working in the church for reward, for gain, diluting the word of God to please man. Teaching things pleasing to the ears. And not the whole truth of the word. And they also have them attending church that hold the doctrine of the Nicolatians, Who mixed the worship of idols with their worship of Jesus.
